Following the death of her parents and brother, Tessa is forced by unfortunate circumstances into a difficult living situation with her substance abusing Aunt Kiki and Kiki’s physically and emotionally abusive boyfriend, Dino. She goes to school when she can (which isn’t very often), and often seeks refuge with her friends Briana and Sweet and their families. Together they deal with the challenges and hardships that life puts in front of them, and dream about a successful future in the music business. Ultimately, someday does come, and through it all they stick by each other.

Summing it up: 4.5/5 stars

This book is so perfectly placed in its setting.
