LOOKING AT ASSES
Yep. We all do it. We look at other people’s asses. Most often, we don’t even do it on purpose. It’s automatic. Someone passes by in front of us, we look them up and down from behind and our eyes automatically land on their rump, backside, butt, fanny, buttocks, the seat of their pants, their ass…whatever you prefer to call it. We just do it.
What do we think when we do it? Often nothing really. We think nothing important about it and sometimes don’t even have an inner dialog about it. We look and just move on.
Sometimes though, if we’re bored, or the butt really gains our attention for some odd reason, we think about it. Our first impression is… “Gross! Wrong pants, moron!” Or maybe, “Ooo…nice!” Maybe, “Is that chocolate?…I hope it’s chocolate.”
Once in a while we may elaborate on the bum that meanders by. Staring at it for several seconds, just analyzing the seat. “Oh, yuck. Cellulite, dimples, pants too small, butt too large…Ditch the spandex!” Or maybe, “Wow, well rounded seat, costly jeans… I see he shops at Abercrombie. Must workout. Whaaat? He’s 25? So what, I’m 43. I ain’t dead yet.” “Wow, nice ass! I would so ask her out on a… Whaaat? She’s 16. Nope. Gotta run!”
Personally, I hate it when I see people wearing pants that are too small. It drives me nuts when I’m in Wal-mart behind someone whose pants are so small they’ve disappeared up the crack of their… And I’m standing their thinking. Does she have underwear on? I don’t see panty lines. Isn’t that uncomfortable? Does she think that looks good or attractive? I think that guy behind me is staring at her butt. What’s he thinking?
Sometimes, this happens on the beach, or at the local swimming hole. We’re just sippin’ our soft drink…or what have you…minding our damned business then, wham! He walks by, belling carrying triplets, beer in hand, tiniest speedo in the world holding up his business in a way that makes us feel light headed. No, no. He doesn’t look anything like Keith Urban or LL Cool J. No, not this guy. He looks like something we might find in the next Austin Powers flick, hanging out with Big Fat Bastard, eating mustard-laden chili dogs and farting. Oh…my…God, Becky…Did he just stop and scratch his…. We ladies then think, holy cow! And the other guys?…They pour out those Buds and order a bottle of spring water. The dog in the front is about to bust out, the junk in the trunk is smilin’ at us as it eats the back of his swimming attire and the only thing we can do is stop and stare. Okay, maybe giggle.
But, we look. We can’t help it. It doesn’t matter if it’s Beyonce walking around or Big Fat Bastard, we stare. Doesn’t matter if we love it or hate it. We look. Doesn’t matter if we’re rushing around downtown on our lunch hour or wandering around our neighborhood. We look. Sometimes we don’t even realize we’re doing it. Sometimes we like what we see. Sometimes we don’t, but we look. Once in a while there’s inner dialog, or not. We just do it.
So, what’s the point to this blog? Well, nothing. Nothing at all.
I bet next time a butt passes you by you won’t look at it the same way again. Happy rump watching!

I recently finished reading Crystal Promise: The Shattered Crystal, by indie author, James Funfer, and left my review on Amazon and Goodreads. I’m copying it here to share with you as well.
I am not great at reviewing. Some reviewers like to start with “This story is about a…”. I don’t do that because I’ll end up retelling the story and spoiling it for everyone. So here’s my review. I’d like to add that this book is a quick read and it keeps one questioning. There was barely a dull moment. It’s a little YA, a little fantasy, a little sci-fi. Happy reading!

“When I read the blurb on the back cover, I was not sure what to expect. It didn’t relay the same message as the description here on Amazon. I was a bit confused at first. When I downloaded the book, I knew it would involve or center around young people, but at the same time I expected a whole lot of adult conspiracies going on, weaving in and out of the story, and more of an adult-packed novel with elders trying to take over this world. I expected a lot of young victims from the story in my head.
While there are young victims, it’s not the adults who totally stir them, but they, themselves, who do the stirring. I did not get what I expected. What I found is a pleasing array of personal stories nicely intertwined into the fabric of a place I’ve never been (and in the case of Novem, a place I’ll never go except in Funfer stories!) along with history, culture and war. Not just former war, but looming revolt. I saw a truth about how everything we do affects others down the line, in the fabric of time, and how no matter what, we have to do what’s best for us at any given moment. Yes, it’s a good thing to be selfless, yet at the same time we sometimes – given the circumstances – have to do what we need to in order to live. Oh how love, survival, and friendship can be thorny roses, indeed. I found myself racing through the pages to see what would happen next and to whom and was barely bored a moment.
I was drawn to several of the characters, my two most favorites being Jacoby and Julio. I was even angered by some of the characters to the point that I talked out loud to myself! When a character incites me in such a way, the author’s done their job. I’ve read books by well-known best selling…I mean, really best sellers with high sales…and their characters didn’t evoke feelings like some of these characters did for me. I tend to observe characters more than story in books; I have to know they’re not the author. I want to see that they are themselves, and are alive and well. James Funfer does that in this story. He lets these characters live.
Because there’s truth behind it, I thoroughly enjoy when an author includes young people facing situations that might change their lives drastically, forever, and there are seemingly no level-headed adults around to lend guidance. And the ones who try end up sucked up in the darkness. It’s like this for the teens in this novel. Dare I say, although it’s not described this way here on Amazon, this makes a great young adult or coming of age novel that adults, both male and female, can enjoy.
I refuse to add any spoilers, so let me just say… I got to the end and did not find the result I anticipated, or assumed I might find. I also realize that while this book is a story in and of itself, and some of the tales told in it have been tied up, this story is also a seed. It’s not meant to be an end, but a beginning. This is not a tale of what was, but what will be. If you like a series with a “book 1″ that plants the seeds for more…that will only get better…this one’s for you.

My all-time favorite astrology book is The Only Astrology Book You’ll Ever Need by Joanna Martine Woolfolk. I bought my first copy sometime in the early 90s, only to have it stolen by some strumpet my boyfriend was cheating on me with. I’ve long since gotten over him, but I’m still pretty bent about the book. Seriously, you can steal just about anything you want from me, but keep your mitts off of my books!
But I digress.

I like this view and think it can apply to many.
First and foremost, I’m quite happy to be an Irishman. The main reason being the hospitality with which people of other nationalities treat you once finding out that you’re Irish (my twitter followers being a perfect example of this). However, it’s on days like March 17th each year that makes me cringe; with both embarrassment and anger.
I suppose you’ll be wanting to know why? Of course you will. Well, here’s why.
