KILLER ON THE TRAIN
Your energy envelops me
Wraps me in ice
A grip I cannot escape
Is of a killer on the train
Bold and egotistical
You’re aware of how I feel
I feel you
I turn to look at you
Your head swivels my way
Your eyes meet mine
How did you know I’d look?
I guess evil has its way
We’re looking directly at one another
Your eyes on mine
You’ve seized me
I cannot move
I will not back down
Cannot hide from you
Are you wondering in the least about how I know?
No
Our eyes are locked together
Three seconds seem like minutes
I’m studying you
You’re daring me – Don’t stop
Your round eyes
Abysmal and black
Are you afraid? – your eyes challenge
I am not
Not of me?
Not of you
Only the special can see
I see
The train slows
He lets me go
I survived
Because I acknowledged
A killer on the train

“Winter Home at Night”
Painting by Tom Hoy
From fineartamerica.com
what grows in the winter but the cold
pushes lengthening fingers of frost
along sidewalks and down dead-end streets
up the stairs into parlors no purpose
at hand but to freeze every clock and
with that put a stop to the end of the night
I’ll be posting a blog a day in October. A little witchy fun, maybe a bit o’magic. I’ll even try my skills at flash fiction. Then again, maybe not. Hmmm…. Well, tune in during October!
The Stories of Scott D. Southard
I’m really excited to share with you today the cover for my new novel PERMANENT SPRING SHOWERS!
PERMANENT SPRING SHOWERS is being published by 5 Prince Books (you can find the page for the book here).
This really awesome cover was created by Daniel Phillips. During the day Daniel is an audio/video engineer/editor based out of Arvada, CO with a passion for filmmaking (especially documentaries) and loves print design. He works at SCM Productions which is a full-service audio/video production studio (you can find them on the internet at www.scmpro.com). I think his work perfectly captures the vibe of this little twisted book.
Over the next few months, I look forward to telling you more and more about my new novel!
